After watching that clip, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Incredible? Unbelievable? Inspiring? For me that word was courageous. If blind man can surf Pipeline, one of the heavier waves of the world, then why can't I do anything that I want.
Derek Rabelo lost his eye sight at the age of one to Glaucoma. That didn't stop him from living like every other kid. He still took up various outdoor activities such as swimming and skating. He started surfing several years ago in his native country of Brazil. One of his dreams was to eventually surf Pipeline which is on the North Shore of Oahu in Hawaii. He kept working at it and, as seen in the video, he was able to live his dream.
One thing I am taking from that story is that if you work hard enough, you can make any dream a reality. You just need to not be afraid of failure. You need to show the courage to pursue your dreams and not let anything stop you from getting there. Or, to keep with the Walt Disney quotes, "Keep moving forward."
what an incredibly inspiring story! He's a great example of setting your mind to something and overcoming anything that stands in your way.
