H is for Home

One thing that is funny about Los Angeles is that I most of the people I know are not from the area. So whenever I meet someone new, the topic of where I am from comes up. Undoubtedly, the most popular question will get asked, "Why would you leave Hawaii?". My answer is always the same, I wanted to get away. In doing so I've realized two very important things. I discovered just how lucky I am to have grown up in Hawaii and, perhaps more importantly, that home is where your heart is. I've been living on the mainland for almost 10 years now (yikes!) yet I can not think of a time where I ever called anything but Hawaii home.

  1. I've never been to either one - Hawaii or LA. Both seem like they would be great places to visit.

    1. LA can be nice if you plan it right or are aware of what you might be getting in to. As for Hawaii, you can't really go wrong. It is a great place to visit. Thanks for stopping by!

  2. I spent a lot of time in LA for 6 months last year where my job took me there two weeks in every month. I'm afraid I can't say I liked it very much, but I did enjoy the surrounding places that I could visit on weekends with LA as a base.

I've been living in London for the past 12 years, and like you, most of the people I know are not from there, so the same question is often asked. And when I reply with 'I'm from Australia' I usually get the same reaction...why would I leave Australia for grey, rainy London?! I feel fortunate to have lived in two places that I consider home!

  3. I've been to L.A. :) I stayed in Orange County a couple of times and toured around a bit.
    Did all the touristy things.
Pointed at stuff, said "oh oh look look" a lot, and got sunburnt like a radish (white Irish skin you see...)
    Loved it tho

  4. Flown into LA but have never really been. Of course you know I've been to Hawaii many time but never to your Island, I know it's beautiful but since my family is located in Oahu that's where i go.
My home is New York, where I was born and raised where my kids were born. Not where I live now but that's where my heart will always be. Frankly I don't want to move back but part of me is always there...
